Kass, ECU’s starting QB, arrested on DWI charge

Rob Kass, East Carolina University’s starting quarterback, was arrested on a Driving While Impaired charge early Saturday morning.

According to his arrest report, Kass was arrested at 1:28 a.m. on Saturday morning. His blood alcohol level was 0.19, which is more than double North Carolina’s legal limit of 0.08. He actually had two misdemeanor charges against him; one of DWI and another of provincial DWI (underage drinking). Kass is 20.

Kass was driving a black 2003 Dodge Ram, which was left at the scene (East Fifth St. and Green Springs Pkwy). He was released under a $1,000 secured bond.

Kass’ court date is set for Nov. 13 in Greenville. You can see his impaired driving query here.

According to information from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Kass’ driver’s license was taken from him at the scene and it has also been revoked for the 30 days from the date of the offense.

I was at Skip Holtz’ press conference that began at noon and the coach refused to comment on the situation, other than to verify that it happened. He did say that Kass is still No. 1 on the depth chart, but of course, that could change at any time.

Some of Skip’s quotes from Monday’s presser:

“There’s been a lot made of the Rob Kass situation, from a public standpoint,” Holtz said. “It is something we’ve been made aware of, that we’ve known about for a couple of days. It’s something that (ECU Athletics Director) Coach (Terry) Holland and myself have talked about. I’ve visited with Rob.

“But at this point, I’m not ready to address it publicly. When I am ready to address it publicly, I will. Right now, I’m going to handle it within this football team until I have the opportunity to address and talk to everybody I have to talk to. When it’s appropriate, I’ll make it a public issue. At this point, it’s not.”

.19?, how did he start the car

    Idiot

  2. heelatious Says:

If Skip Holtz starts Capt. Morgan there at QB Saturday in Blacksburg, then I’ll lose the little bit of respect I had for him to start with.

    Brilliant

This guy was getting ready to be on the grandest of stages for the opening weekend of college football and made a terrible lapse in judgement. No way does Holtz let him play at V Tech. I would be shocked if he were not suspended for longer than that. In the past, Holtz has been no nonsense when it comes to stuff like this. Wonder how he will proceed with this one. My guess is 3 games.

  5. GWhitley Says:

WOW!! I think the line just went to -39 for Va Tech.
I am sure he had a “good reason” to be behind the wheel. Those late night sorority parties are pretty good and by the way that “hoochie” should not have got his hopes up or his blood alcohol content. Another bad mistake by a young man, more to cum.

Mr Kass has done a very stupid thing. One has to question his values and his judgment when he does something like this. Frequently a trick like this ends up in serious injury or death for others. With judgment like this, I would not like him leading my team.
Wonder if this is Kass’ first event…or just the first he got caught at.
He has no business on our football team. He has let everybody down.

    Who is Captain Morgan??

  8. b w Says:

A reference to a spiced rum.

  9. encmetalhead Says:

i caught bits of a tv interview and i heard he was suspened for V tech but i don;t know if longer of not but KAss is young and i wouldn’t be THAT hard on him, i would play it by how Pinkey plays Sat if he’s good then 3-4 games if Pinkey is decent to bad 2-3 games

  10. The Kid Says:

you can’t base the suspension of kass on pickney’s play. i hate it for this guy, but what really sucks is that i was hoping ecu wouldn’t have any excuses when carolina beat them

  11. encmetalhead Says:

They can’t openly state it no, but they can say he’s suspend for upcoming game with offical length being released at a later date

  12. b w Says:

    Have you been drinking too?

  13. coliver Says:

Didnt Pickney graduate or have I been drinking?

  14. b w Says:

I thought the same thing, but he is talking about Patrick Pickney, I think.

  15. ECPirates11 Says:

yeah Patrick Pinkney is still there but hes probably not going to start. It will more than likely be Brett Clay.

  16. Will the Thrill Says:

There’s too much blood in his alcohol stream

  17. Lee Says:

Wow, this is a TOTAL shock to me! An ECU student, drunk and attempting to drive a vehicle?

  18. Greg Melvin Says:

I hate it for the fans,,but ECU is well known for being a party school. Too bad for Kass, it is supposed to be the fans partying.
