Sarah Palin is coming to Greenville

Thanks to our good friend Jim Godfrey for this nugget: Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin will be coming to Greenville on Tuesday. She will speak at ECU’s Minges Coliseum at 5 p.m.

My take: Wow! I can already see Flagan, Heelatious and Guitar Wrecker camping out in front of Minges for a couple days so they get up close.

Guys — stalking is illegal in North Carolina. Those Secret Service agents will hurt you!

There’s dumb, and then there’s Sarah Palin dumb.

I didn’t realize how bad it was till I actually saw some interview footage.

I can deal with McCain if he wins, but if something happened to him … I mean, good lord…

  2. JenShrader Says:

    AMEN.

  3. Flagan Says:

And then there’s Joe Biden dumb.

  4. Omega_07solo Says:

I dont care who you are or what party you like….you cannnot seriously say that you would be okay with Mrs. Palin running the country.

  5. Lee Says:

She sounded alright when she had teleprompter in front of her. In these interviews though…whoa. Sounds like she’s tripping on acid.

  6. heelatious Says:

Another foot soldier in the Obama army I sense.

Joe Biden has put his foot in his mouth so many times over the years, he’s probably got athlete’s foot on his tonsils.

  7. Flagan Says:

Yeah she has done such a bad job of running Alaska that only 90% of the state’s citizens approved of her before troopergate. Since then that figure has dropped to 80%.

I can see why we would rather have Obama, his approval rating for running……………………………………………………………………………………………………….Wait a minute until I find something that he has run. Oh yeah, I remember now, Obama said when asked how he could criticize Palin’s experience while he had never run anything that he had run something, he had run his campaign.

So Obama’s logic is that he is qualified to be president BECAUSE he is running for president.

  8. Omega_07solo Says:

Not sure if foot soldier was to me but if so..hmmmm I am more of a historian. I like the political aspect of all of this but if I had to pick I would much rather have Mrs. Clinton than Mrs. Palin as my first female president. JMO

  9. Omega_07solo Says:

I can see why we would rather have MCCAIN, his approval rating for running……………………………………………………………………………………………………….Wait a minute until I find something that he has run. Cant call out Obama without calling out McCain on that one.

  10. heelatious Says:

My suspicions are confirmed I see. I guess Obama has the “historian” vote going for him too.

  11. Omega_07solo Says:

Hahahahaha heelatious…I am just up here to discuss politics with others. Not really stumping for a candidate. You gentlemen seem to be very knowledgable about politics and most everything else so I figured being the historian that I am I would pick up some new information.

  12. heelatious Says:

How about running a unit in Viet Nam. The only thing Obama has “run” is from his responsibilities to serve his constituency, as evidenced by his 132 “present” votes in the Illinois Senate. At least McCain can cast a vote, one way or the other when the cards are on the table.

I can see it now, if Obama was elected, Sir we’ve just been attacked by Iran we’ll say, do we strike back? Is Obama’s answer:

    A. No, no, Iran is just a tiny country, and not a threat.
    B. Quick, go take a poll, and let’s see what the result is first.
    C. Perhaps we should talk to them, without preconditions of course.
    D. Can I just vote “present” Joe.

  13. Bryan Hanks Says:

Now, Lee — what would you know about tripping on acid?

  14. Omega_07solo Says:

Very good points. Those present votes do cast a negative light on his decision making abilities. I was hoping that he would be asked that during the debates.

But running a tactical unit in Veitnam is a little different than running the country wouldn’t you agree?

  15. heelatious Says:

Agreed. However running a tactical unit in Viet Nam is a little more important, than running a campaign, especially when we all know full well Obama isn’t involved in the day-to-day operations of his campaign, wouldn’t you agree?

  16. Surge Says:

Why do I like Sarah Palin?

Because the mainstream media and Hollywood tell me not to like her. I figure doing the opposite of what “they” recommend is pretty sound judgement.

  17. COACH5511 Says:

    Amen Surge!

  18. heelatious Says:

    Pretty sound logic Surge.

  19. Charlie K. Says:

Hey Hanks, is it safe to assume that Sarah Palin will make the Oct. 8 eye candy of the day?

  20. Lee Says:

Surge, that’s a false dilemma, so it isn’t very sound logic (logical fallacy).

Just because the dumbasses in Hollywood sound crazy doesn’t make what Palin is saying correct.

  21. Surge Says:

I’m not too sure of that. From the very moment that Sarah was announced as McCain’s choice, the main stream media and Hollywood beat her to death………before she ever uttered a word.

That did not seem all that fair to me, especially since Obama gets a free pass on his background, “friends,” and socialist proposals.

Of course I will agree that my logic has never been real sound, but I do manage to get by. Being a local yokel I have found that relying on common sense is about all I’ve got.

I believe any candidate deserves a fair shake and I just don’t see how she got one.

  22. Rocky Says:

The debate is over, so whaddaya think? Say what you want about Palin, but she’s definitely smarter than any of us. John Q, you should pray that you were Palin dumb.

  23. John Q. Awesome Says:

In a way, strangely enough, you might be right.

To be THAT oblivious to the world around me would be very liberating. It would take a lot of stress out of my life.

  24. heelatious Says:

Oh you college kids, God love you.

Game, set, and match to Palin. Even some of the liberal left is having to give up the fact that she smoked, and effectively on a couple of occasions got under Joe Biden’s skin.

The only thing I can say for Joe Biden is he better be glad he wasn’t hooked up to a shock collar that went off everytime he lied about his, or Obama’s record, or he would’ve electrocuted himself in the first 15 minutes of the debate.

  25. John Q. Awesome Says:

I’ll have to catch the highlights tomorrow before I can actually comment on how she (or Biden) did in the debate.

I was too busy watching “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” tonight.

One of the funniest shows on TV.

And it’s been a while since I’ve been in college.

  26. Flagan Says:

I predicted last week that Obama would stretch his lead after the presidential debate. I predict that Palin caused the lead to shrink last night. I don’t know if it will evaporate but it will be less.

Omega, heelatious already answered this question but I’m going to also since you asked me by mimicing my style. McCain was a squadron leader, Obama has never led anything. I may have misunderstood, but it seems you think being a leader in the military is something less than being a business leader. I do not agree. The fact remains that Palin is the only one of the four with government leadership experience.

A coulpe more comparisons for you:

McCain won the Silver Star, Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the Distiguished Flying Cross and the Legion of Merit. Obama THOUGHT about joining the military. Obama specifically said that he had to register for the draft in 1979 and that he thought about joining but didn’t because we were not at war. Let’s think about that statement.
    1. There was no draft in 1979.
    2. There was no war BUT we did have hostages being held by Iran. Since Obama has said that Iran is a tiny country that proposes no threat to the U.S. I guess that wasn’t enough to get him to join.
    3. He insinuates that he only wanted to join if there was a war going on. We’re to believe that he WANTED to go overseas and be shot at but history shows that he doesn’t even have the courage to cast a vote. My faith can’t leap that far.

  27. Flagan Says:

Surge and Lee both have made good points. Lee is right that what others say does not make what you say be correct. But surge is right about the media’s fixation on Palin. Like surge says, Palin has been investigated excessively and every issue brought to bear on her turns out to be a media creation. If the media would have put Obama under the same scrunity, McCain would be running against Clinton right now.

  28. Flagan Says:

    On to the debate.
Palin pretty much eliminated the fear that the MSM has been propagating about whether or not she is able to lead our country. Close to 90% of independent voters that claim to still be in the air about who they’ll vote for say that she erased any fear they had to that effect. Imo the only ones still doubting her ability are those with an “elect Obama” agenda.

I’ve heard some say that Biden had a better grasp of what’s going on. Really? He lied 14 times last night. How can he have a better grasp of what’s happening when he doesn’t even have a grasp of what the truth is. Many things he said about Obama completely contradict facts he cited before he was selected as VP nominee.

    Gotta run.

  29. Surge Says:

    Flagan wrote:

“If the media would have put Obama under the same scrunity, McCain would be running against Clinton right now.”

I think that statement should be added as a verse to the “Star Spangled Banner.”

  30. Flagan Says:

Back to finish my debate thoughts:

Omega is right about Biden. For people that don’t know the facts Biden’s speaking style could be very persuasive.

One of my favorite issues last night. Palin said she wasn’t going to debate whether or not global warming was man-made. She said that regardless of whether or not it was man-made we combat global warming. Biden said that global warming was absolutely man-made. I think one of these positions is without a doubt the more adult and logical of the two.

  31. Flagan Says:

    Lee

I am not trying to reopen our debate on fascism. I just want to relate my thoughts from what I have read about it. The people that practiced fascism thought of it as a compromise between the left- and right-wing way. They thought they were taking the best from both. In recent times it has been associated with the far right-wing. Historians can’t agree on a definition of it. There are competing thoughts as to its definition in every book I have skimmed since our last conversation.

Omega, as a historian, what’s your take on fascism.

  32. Flagan Says:

Surge, I was just reiterating your point. If it gets added to the “Star Spangled Banner” you should get the credit.

  33. heelatious Says:

That’s the problem Flagan, there are so many people out there, that like I stated in another thread, that get there political news in five minutes on the national news, that will take everything that came out Biden’s mouth as the gospel truth.

I truly hope these people do some research, and realize just how many times Biden not only lied about himself and Obama’s record, but McCain’s as well. He did vote to raise taxes on people making as little as $42,000 a year, and if you think he’s not going to raise taxes if he were to get elected to pay for his nearly one trillion dollars he’s proposed in NEW spending, you’re kidding yourself.

Before anyone gets caught up in the class warfare that Obama/Biden want you to, just remember, the bottom 50% of American taxpayers pay exactly 2.9% of the taxes, the wealthiest 1% pay over 80% of the total tax. Look, common sense will tell you if you cut tax rates across the board, it’s going to translate to more dollars in savings to the wealthiest in the country, because they MAKE more, so in contrast they PAY more taxes, so if you cut their tax rate by a single % point, they are going to save more money in taxes than me or you.

I really don’t know why it is so hard for people to grasp this fact. They keep talking about the middle class having to be strong in order for the economy to be strong, and I agree. But let me enlighten you, the middle class are not the ones that create jobs in this country, it’s the wealthy in the private sector, and the corporations that Obama/Biden, seem to attribute all the evils in the country to. If you raise the capital gains tax, raise the corporate tax rate, take away any and all incentives for these companies, impose a windfall profits tax, how in the world do you expect these companies to invest, and expand, and create more jobs.

Obama and Biden, and the Democratic party in general seem to despise the rich in this country. I have nothing against people, and corporations that are doing well in this country. Please tell me also, how they are going to be the friend of the middle class when one of the first things they are going to do is repeal the Bush tax cuts. It’s double talk, and I hope to God that enough Americans will see it as such, and keep Obama/Biden out of the White House.

  34. Omega_07solo Says:

    Flagan.
I have always viewed fascism as nationalism on steroids. It looks good, it even plays good in some cases but eventually the muscles gonna pop. Most facist dictators started off with actual good intentions but somewhere along the line power, greed, money, etc overpowered their thinking and you were left with dictators and these societies that had no voice except for that one man. Thats just my personal opinion but you can find 1000 different variations of it in 1000 diff classrooms in 1000 different colleges around the world.

As far as the earlier post about leading a tactical unit and leading campaign/country….I do believe that leading a unit is very important, probably the second most important leadership role there is behind the Commander in Chief role which in historical terms is still leading a tactical unit. I was just stating there was a difference.
